Comilla: Four Members of Same Family Killed in Road Accident, Bodies Handed Over Without Autopsy*

In a tragic road accident in Comilla, the bodies of four members of the same family, who lost their lives, have been handed over to their relatives without autopsies at the request of the family. The handover took place on Friday (August 22) around 8 PM by the Maynamati Highway Police Station.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Anisur Rahman confirmed the matter to Dhaka Post. During the handover, the deceased Omar Ali’s elder daughter Hasina Akter, younger daughter Roksana Akter Bithi, their husbands, and many others were present. Relatives of the deceased stated that all four will be buried side by side in the family graveyard at Hosainpur Bepari Bari in Payalgacha Union, Barura Upazila, Comilla. The funeral prayer (Janaza) is scheduled to be held at 11 PM on Friday at the Hosainpur Central Jame Mosque premises. Sabir Hossain Sumon, a cousin of the deceased Omar Ali, told Dhaka Post, “Upon receiving news of their deaths, we came to collect the bodies. Neighbors in the village are preparing the graves. They will all be buried side by side in our family graveyard at Hosainpur Bepari Bari. The police suggested conducting autopsies, but we did not allow it.” SI Anisur Rahman told Dhaka Post, “As the relatives refused autopsies, the bodies were handed over after completing other legal procedures. A case has been filed under the Road Transport Act in connection with the incident.” The accident occurred around 12 PM on Friday when a covered van overturned onto a private car at a U-turn near Hotel Nurjahan on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Comilla’s Sadar South Upazila. The victims were identified as Omar Ali (80), his wife Nurjahan Begum (65), and their two sons, Abul Hashem (50) and Abul Kashem (45), all residents of Payalgacha village in Barura Upazila. Abul Hashem was driving the car. According to relatives, they were traveling from Dhaka to their village home.
