Document Tampering Leads to Tk 146 Crore Tax Evasion, Officer Suspended

Dhaka Tax Zone-5 Deputy Commissioner Lincoln Roy has been temporarily suspended over allegations of tampering with documents, resulting in a tax evasion of Tk 146 crore.

On Thursday (August 21), a notification signed by National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Abdur Rahman Khan confirmed the suspension. The notification stated that while working in the Source Tax Management Unit, Lincoln Roy manipulated income tax case orders for the 2020-21 and 2021-22 tax years, creating new tax demands that caused a revenue loss of Tk 146 crore, 57 lakh, 46 thousand, and 553 to the government. Consequently, departmental action has been initiated against him.

According to the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018, Rule 12(1), Lincoln Roy has been temporarily suspended from service, as mentioned in the notification. **Document Tampering and Tk 146 Crore Tax Evasion, Officer Suspended** **Six BCS Cadre Officers Voluntarily Resign** Previously, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) approved a case against Lincoln Roy, former Tax Commissioner of Dhaka Tax Zone-5 Abu Saeed Md. Mustak, and another officer for the same Tk 146 crore tax evasion through document tampering. Sources indicate that ACC Assistant Director Minhaz Bin Islam will soon file the case. The accused in the approved case include Tax Commissioner Abu Saeed Md. Mustak, Additional Tax Commissioner Golam Kabir, and Deputy Tax Commissioner Lincoln Roy. Meanwhile, six BCS Education Cadre officers have voluntarily resigned, as confirmed by the Ministry of Education on Thursday (August 21). According to the Ministry of Education, five of the six officers resigned to join other BCS cadres under the 43rd BCS. The ministry’s office order, issued under Section 53 of the Government Service Act, 2018, stated that the resignations were accepted to allow these officers to join the cadres or institutions listed in the order, effective from the dates mentioned. The order, issued in the public interest, will take effect immediately. The officers who resigned include: - Md. Redowanul Karim, Lecturer of Islamic History and Culture at Raipur Government College, Lakshmipur, who joined the Tax Cadre as an Assistant Tax Commissioner. - Md. Mazharul Islam, Lecturer of Political Science at ASM Abdur Rab Government College, Ramgati, who joined the Police Cadre as an Assistant Superintendent of Police. - Bidur Kumar Prang, Lecturer of English at Basir Uddin Memorial Cooperative Women’s College, Naogaon, who joined the Food Cadre as an Assistant Food Controller. - Md. Alauddin Akanda, Lecturer of Mathematics at Kazipur Government Monsur Ali College, Sirajganj, who joined the Administration Cadre as an Assistant Commissioner. - Shyamal Mallick, Lecturer of Sociology at Lakshmipur Government College, who joined the Food Cadre as an Assistant Food Controller. - Md. Yusuf Ali, Lecturer of English at Brindaban Government College, Habiganj, who joined the English Department at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology as a Lecturer.
