Dhaka, August 6, 2025 – The Election Commission (EC) of Bangladesh has recently sought detailed information regarding magistrates who served alongside law enforcement agencies during the national parliamentary elections held in 2014, 2018, and 2024. This information was revealed through a letter signed by Mohammad Monir Hossain, Deputy Secretary of the EC.
According to the letter, the EC has requested the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to provide comprehensive details of the magistrates deployed during these elections across all districts and metropolitan constituencies. The requested information includes the magistrates’ names, their parents’ names, permanent and current addresses, national identification numbers, passport numbers, and mobile phone numbers. The EC stated that this information is essential for ensuring a fair investigation and justice in a case under the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
This move by the EC is part of ongoing efforts to address concerns related to electoral processes and ensure transparency in investigations linked to past elections.
