Extremist Leader Killed in Shooting and Stabbing in Khulna

In Khulna, Sheikh Shahadat Hossain (48) was killed by assailants in a shooting and stabbing attack. The incident occurred around 7:45 PM on Tuesday at a tire shop beneath Sangita Cinema Hall in the Sonadanga Model Thana area.

According to police sources, Sheikh Shahadat was a former leader of an extremist group called "Janyuddha" and had multiple cases, including murder, filed against him. He was recently released on bail after serving a long prison term.

Police reports indicate that around 8:00 PM on Tuesday, several youths chased Sheikh Shahadat from the opposite side of Sangita Cinema Hall. In an attempt to save his life, he sought refuge in a tire shop but was pursued by the attackers. The assailants entered the shop, fired at him, and stabbed him with sharp weapons. Three bullets struck his body, and he sustained severe injuries from the stabbing. Locals rescued him and rushed him to Khulna Medical College Hospital.

Assistant Police Commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police’s (KMP) Sonadanga Zone, Md. Azam Khan, told“Shahadat was a leader of the extremist group Janyuddha. In addition to bullet wounds, there are signs of injuries from sharp weapons on his head. He was declared dead by doctors upon arrival at the hospital.” He added that an investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the attack. CCTV footage from the area has been collected and is being analyzed to identify the perpetrators.
