TSIC Exhibition: Kader Mollah, Saka Chowdhury’s Pictures Removed Amid Protests

Dhaka, August 5, 2025 – As part of the programs marking the first anniversary of the July Uprising, titled “36 July: We Will Not Stop,” Islami Chhatra Shibir organized an exhibition at the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) of Dhaka University, displaying pictures of leaders convicted of war crimes during the 1971 Liberation War. The exhibition sparked protests from leftist student organizations, leading to the removal of the images by the university administration.

The exhibition featured photographs of Jamaat-e-Islami leaders Motiur Rahman Nizami, Delwar Hossain Sayeedi, Ali Ahsan Mujahid, Mir Quasem Ali, Kamruzzaman Chowdhury, and BNP leader Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury, all convicted of crimes against humanity in 1971. In response, leftist student leaders and activists staged a protest at the site. Assistant Proctor Rafiqul Islam arrived at the scene, and the proctorial team subsequently removed the pictures.

Mazharul Islam, the student movement secretary of Dhaka University’s Chhatra Shibir, stated that the images were removed with Shibir’s consent in the interest of the university’s overall security. Assistant Proctor Rafiqul Islam echoed this, saying, “For the sake of the university’s security and with Shibir’s agreement, the pictures were removed. We do not want any unwanted incidents.”
Prior to the protest, the exhibition had drawn criticism on social media, with leftist activists strongly objecting to the display. Members of the Bangladesh Democratic Students’ Council also urged Shibir to remove the pictures.
