Israeli Attacks in Gaza Kill 68, Injure Over 100 Amid Food Aid Crisis

Gaza, August 6, 2025: At least 68 people were killed and over 100 injured in Israeli gunfire and airstrikes across Gaza on Tuesday, with 56 of the deceased reportedly waiting to collect food aid in the war-torn Palestinian territory, according to Gaza’s Civil Defence Agency. The news was reported by Agence France-Presse (AFP)

Mahmud Bassal, spokesperson for the Civil Defence Agency, stated that Israeli forces carried out an attack in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, resulting in 30 deaths. The Israeli military claimed that soldiers fired “warning shots” in the Morag Corridor in southern Gaza when a group of people approached them. The military added that it was unaware of any casualties resulting from these shots.

Bassal further reported that 20 people were killed and 100 injured by Israeli gunfire near the Zikim border crossing in northern Gaza, where aid trucks have recently entered the region. An AFP journalist confirmed that at least a dozen bodies were brought to Hamad Hospital in northern Gaza, with a medical source attributing the deaths to the incident near Zikim. The Israeli military stated it is reviewing the details of the incident. In central Gaza, six people were killed and 21 injured by Israeli gunfire while waiting for food near an aid distribution center, according to Bassal. However, the Israeli military denied firing near any aid center in central Gaza on Tuesday. Due to media restrictions and limited access to many areas in Gaza, AFP could not independently verify the death toll or the accounts provided by the Civil Defence Agency and other parties. Thousands of Gazans gather daily at food distribution centers, including four operated by the US- and Israel-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF). Since late May, when GHF began its operations, reports of Israeli forces firing on crowds waiting for aid have surfaced almost daily.[](https://www.cnn.com/2025/06/01/middleeast/palestinians-killed-gaza-aid-center-intl-hnk)
The ongoing war, which began nearly 22 months ago, has led to severe shortages of food and essential supplies in Gaza due to Israeli restrictions on aid entry. This includes critical shortages of medicine and fuel, which hospitals rely on to power generators for their operations.
