NCP Issues Show-Cause Notices to Five Leaders, Including Hasnat and Sarjis, Over Cox’s Bazar Trip

The National Citizen Party (NCP) has issued show-cause notices to five of its senior leaders, including Hasnat Abdullah and Sarjis Alam, for their unannounced trip to Cox’s Bazar on the first anniversary of the July Uprising, August 5, 2025. The notices, citing the lack of prior notification or explanation to the party’s Political Council, demand a written explanation within 24 hours, to be submitted in person to the party’s top leadership.

The notices were issued on Wednesday by NCP Convener Md. Nahid Islam and Member Secretary Akhter Hossain, and sent by Saleh Uddin Sifat, Joint Member Secretary (Office), who later confirmed the matter to journalists.

The five leaders who received the notices are NCP Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari, Senior Joint Member Secretary Tasnim Jara, Chief Organizer (Northern Region) Sarjis Alam, Chief Organizer (Southern Region) Hasnat Abdullah, and Joint Convener Khaled Saifullah, Tasnim Jara’s husband. The notices, though issued separately, carry identical language: “On the first anniversary of the July Uprising, a nationally significant day, you and four other central party members went to Cox’s Bazar on a personal visit. No prior information or explanation regarding this visit was communicated to the Political Council. You are requested to appear in person before Convener Md. Nahid Islam and Member Secretary Akhter Hossain within 24 hours and provide a written explanation regarding the reasons and context of your decision.” Notably, the sudden trip by these five NCP leaders to Cox’s Bazar sparked widespread speculation and discussion in political circles and on social media. Sources at Cox’s Bazar Airport reported that the leaders arrived around 11:30 AM on Tuesday via a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from Dhaka. They then proceeded to the five-star Sea Pearl Beach Resort & Spa (formerly Royal Tulip) in Inani, approximately 20 kilometers from the airport.
The visit triggered rumors, including claims of a meeting with former US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Haas. However, no evidence confirmed Haas’s presence in Bangladesh, with reports later indicating he was in Washington
