Lauderhill, Florida, August 3, 2025 – Jason Holder emerged as the hero for West Indies, smashing a boundary on the final ball to clinch a dramatic two-wicket victory over Pakistan in the second T20 international on Saturday, leveling the series at 1-1.
Holder, who also claimed four wickets to surpass Dwayne Bravo’s West Indies T20I record with 81 career wickets, remained unbeaten on 16, guiding the hosts to chase down Pakistan’s 134 with no balls to spare. The win ended West Indies’ dismal run of six consecutive T20 defeats, including a 5-0 sweep by Australia last month.
Chasing 134, West Indies were in trouble at 96 for six after Gudakesh Motie’s 28 ended with a run-out in the 17th over. Pakistan’s Mohammad Haris dismissed Keacy Carty for a duck soon after, but Holder’s six in the 18th over kept the hosts alive, needing 24 runs from the final two overs. Romario Shepherd’s 15, including a six and a four in the 19th over, brought West Indies closer, but Shaheen Shah Afridi struck by dismissing Shepherd lbw in the final over. With three runs needed off the last ball, Holder’s composure sealed the victory.
Pakistan, batting first after winning the toss, posted 133 for nine, led by Hasan Nawaz’s 40 (four sixes, one four) and captain Salman Agha’s 38 (one six, three fours). The series decider is set for Sunday in Lauderhill.
