Dhaka Metropolitan Police have arrested the prime suspect, Rabbi (20), in connection with the murder of a young man whose body was recovered in the Kamrangirchar area of the capital. The victim has been identified as Sabbir.
According to Kamrangirchar Police Station, Rabbi was apprehended during a raid in the Battery Ghat area of Kamrangirchar shortly after midnight on Wednesday. The rope used in the murder was recovered from his possession during the arrest.
On Tuesday afternoon, the National Emergency Service 999 received a report about a body lying in a garbage pile near the waste transfer center in Battery Ghat, Kamrangirchar. Upon receiving the information, police arrived at the scene and recovered the partially decomposed body of a young man. A murder case was subsequently filed at Kamrangirchar Police Station.
Deputy Commissioner of the Media and Public Relations Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Muhammad Talebur Rahman, stated that based on preliminary investigations and evidence, police confirmed Rabbi’s involvement in the murder. Using intelligence and technological assistance, his location was identified, leading to his arrest.
Police further revealed that Rabbi confessed in his court statement that the murder was premeditated, carried out by a group, and the body was dumped in the garbage pile to conceal the crime.
