Putrajaya, August 12, 2025 – Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed deep concern over the burden Bangladesh faces in hosting a large number of forcibly displaced Rohingyas during a bilateral meeting with Bangladesh Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus in Putrajaya on Tuesday. Speaking at a joint press conference, Anwar highlighted the need for peace in Myanmar and immediate humanitarian assistance for refugees and victims of natural disasters, such as earthquakes.
Anwar commended Bangladesh’s proactive role in multilateral forums in New York, Kolkata, and Malaysia. He announced that Malaysia’s Foreign Minister, in coordination with Indonesia, Philippines, and Thailand, will visit Myanmar in the coming weeks to work toward peace and address atrocities against ethnic minorities.
Anwar highlighted that Malaysia was among the first nations to send an official delegation to Dhaka, underscoring their commitment to strengthening ties with Bangladesh in investment, trade, culture, and education to foster peace and development.
