Mirza Fakhrul: Tarique Rahman Will Return to Lead Us

Dhaka, August 3, 2025: On the occasion of the first anniversary of the historic July-August mass uprising, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir addressed a student rally organized by Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal at Shahbagh in the capital on Sunday afternoon. He expressed confidence that BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will return to Bangladesh to lead the party and guide the nation, ahead of the anticipated elections in February.

Speaking as the chief guest at the rally, Mirza Fakhrul said, “Our leader Tarique Rahman, from London, has consulted with Chief Adviser Professor Yunus and decided that elections will be held in February. The people of Bangladesh are eagerly awaiting this election. Before that, they are waiting for our leader Tarique Rahman to return to the country. Isn’t that what we all want? He will come, lead us, and show us the way.”

Emphasizing the importance of intellectual growth, Fakhrul urged students to harness their talent and knowledge to move the nation forward. “Without nurturing our intellect, we cannot progress. We must advance through the pursuit of knowledge and wisdom,” he added. Raising allegations against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Fakhrul stated, “The fascist Hasina has taken refuge in India with her forces. From there, she occasionally threatens to attack Bangladesh. Not only that, they are trying to create unrest in various ways.” He called for unity to counter such activities, saying, “We must remain united. There are many attempts to create division in Bangladesh.” Fakhrul further urged the rally attendees to take an oath: “From this gathering, we must pledge that we will never allow Sheikh Hasina to return to politics in this country. We will never bow down to anyone. We will build a self-reliant Bangladesh.” The student rally, organized to commemorate the July-August uprising, saw a massive turnout at Shahbagh. The event began around 2:30 PM with a speech by Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam. BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman joined virtually around 3:15 PM. The formal proceedings started with a recitation of the Quran, followed by the national anthem.
The rally was presided over by Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam and moderated by General Secretary Nasir Uddin. Other speakers included BNP Vice Chairmen Shamsuzzaman and Asaduzzaman, Chairperson’s Adviser Amanullah Aman, Joint Secretaries General Khairul Kabir, Habib Un Nabi Khan, and Shahid Uddin Chowdhury, among others
