Mufti Syed Muhammad Faizul Karim, Senior Naib-e-Amir of Islami Andolan Bangladesh, stated that there is no difference between the statements of Sajeeb Wazed Joy and Tarique Rahman. He noted that during the previous fascist regime, Joy had emphasized preventing the rise of fundamentalism. Now, Tarique Rahman is echoing the same sentiment. "I see no difference between Joy’s statements and Tarique Rahman’s statements," he remarked.
He made these comments on Friday (August 22) during the 34th anniversary celebration of Islami Chhatra Andolan Bangladesh, held in front of the National Museum in Shahbagh.
Addressing BNP leaders, Faizul Karim said, "For so long, you were elected with the votes of right-wing supporters. At one point, you spoke in favor of fundamentalists. Why are you now speaking against them? For years, fundamentalists have been deceived, but they have now learned to understand this. Their demands have never been fulfilled by those who made promises."
He further stated that their expectation is to establish equality, human dignity, and justice in Bangladesh. However, in the past 53 years, those in power have failed to fulfill their promises. "The parties that came to power made numerous promises in their election manifestos, but they failed to implement them. Yet, they are now planning to return to power," he added.
Mufti Faizul Karim also commented, "The rise of the right-wing is happening, and today, there is a rise of fundamentalism. Yesterday, I saw Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir speaking at a temple, indirectly referring to Islam and the current Islamic governance. I would say, in a country with 92 percent Muslims, the establishment of Islamic governance is not surprising. Rather, it would be surprising if it doesn’t happen." He also demanded the adoption of a proportional representation (PR) system in the upcoming election.
The event, presided over by Yusuf Ahmad Mansur, President of Islami Chhatra Andolan Bangladesh, featured a keynote address by Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, Amir of Islami Andolan Bangladesh. The program concluded with a rally.
