Rui-Katla of Drug Syndicates Still Evading Capture

Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has stated that while drug traffickers, particularly those involved with yaba, are being apprehended through media reports, the major players, referred to as "Rui-Katla," remain at large. "We are catching the small fry like Puti and Tengra, but the big fish, Rui and Katla, are not being caught. We aim to bring them under the law as soon as possible," he said.

The adviser made these remarks on Monday (August 4) while responding to journalists' questions after a meeting of the core committee on law and order.

He further elaborated that the meeting covered a comprehensive discussion on the country’s overall situation, including recent events and potential future developments. "We placed special emphasis on the drug issue because it has become a major problem in our country," he added. Responding to a question about the government’s special operations, the adviser said, "The special operations are ongoing nationwide and will continue until the elections. The challenge is that we haven’t recovered all the weapons that have gone missing. Our efforts to retrieve them are ongoing, but our forces are limited. When they focus on one area, crime increases in another." On the issue of mob violence, he noted, "Mob violence has decreased compared to before and will gradually reduce further. We have not shown any leniency in dealing with mob-related incidents." Addressing a question about the elections and the Awami League, the adviser clarified, "Who participates in the elections is not the concern of the Home Ministry. Our priority is to ensure a good law and order situation during the election period, and we have made all necessary preparations, including training our forces." When asked about allegations of providing more protection to certain political parties, he responded, "We are providing equal protection to everyone. However, those who are more vulnerable receive slightly more protection, and those less vulnerable receive less. For example, you (journalists) are not vulnerable, so you don’t need protection." In response to another question, Jahangir Alam asserted, "The election will be conducted with the existing forces, and it will be a very good election conducted effectively."
