Gazipur Metropolitan Police arrested two more individuals on Friday night (August 8) in connection with the brutal murder of journalist Asaduzzaman Tuhin in Gazipur. The arrests were made during operations conducted at various locations.
The arrested individuals are Shahjalal (25), son of Hanif Miya from Anantapur, Homna Thana, Cumilla, and Md. Foysal Hasan (23), son of Kiyamuddin Hasan from Pachbaria, Pabna.
Previously, police arrested five suspects, including a woman, based on CCTV footage from the crime scene. Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) Additional Deputy Commissioner (North) Robiul Islam confirmed the arrests.
According to ADC Robiul Islam, a total of five individuals had been arrested earlier in connection with the murder. Foysal alias Ketu Mizan, his wife Golapi, and Sumon were apprehended from Bhabanipur in Gazipur Sadar Upazila. Al Amin was arrested from the Turag area of Uttara, Dhaka, while another suspect named Swadhin was detained by RAB from Hotapara, Gazipur Sadar Upazila.
Among the arrested, Golapi, the woman seen in the CCTV footage, is believed to be central to the incident that led to the attack. Foysal alias Ketu Mizan, her husband, was seen in the footage wielding a machete and chasing the victim. Another suspect, Swadhin, was seen in a white shirt and jeans holding a machete. Additionally, Al Amin and Sumon were also arrested.
The arrests were made during joint operations by RAB-1 and police on Friday night.
Around midnight on Friday, GMP Additional Commissioner (Crime) Taherul Haque Chowhan stated, “Since the murder of journalist Tuhin, multiple police teams have been working diligently on the case. After collecting CCTV footage, we identified the suspects and tracked their locations. These efforts led to their arrests.”
He added, “For the sake of the investigation, we cannot disclose further details at this time. Our operations are ongoing, and we hope to apprehend all those involved soon.”
