The United Kingdom has introduced significant changes to the visa application process for international students, including those from Bangladesh. The traditional paper-based visa documents have been replaced with an e-visa system. Effective from July 15, students applying for a UK student visa from Bangladesh will no longer receive a visa sticker or vignette in their passports. The UK government has also clarified who will still receive physical visa stickers.
According to a report by *The Economic Times*, citing the UK government, the UK has discontinued the Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) and introduced e-visas in its place. In the future, Biometric Residence Cards (BRC) and physical visa stickers in passports will also be gradually replaced by the e-visa system. The e-visa will be fully stored on a digital platform, making the process more efficient and secure.
**What’s Changing?**
Bangladeshi students will no longer receive a visa sticker in their passports. Instead, all visa-related information will be stored in a secure digital account, which can be accessed, verified, or updated at any time. When entering the UK, students will only need their passport and access to their e-visa account details.
**Who Will Still Get a Visa Sticker?**
While most applicants will transition to e-visas, certain categories, such as dependents of students (spouses or children), will continue to receive vignette stickers in their passports.
The UK Home Office states that the primary goal of this change is to simplify and secure the entry process while advancing the digitization of immigration services. The e-visa system allows applicants to verify or update their visa information anytime, anywhere.
**What Students Need to Do Before Traveling:**
- Create a UKVI (UK Visas and Immigration) account and link it with the passport used for travel.
- Ensure that the e-visa has been issued and is correctly linked to the UKVI account.
- Keep a copy (printed or digital) of the e-visa approval letter to present at the airport or during immigration checks.
- If a new passport is issued or changed, update the passport details in the UKVI account.
This shift to e-visas is part of the UK’s broader initiative to modernize its immigration system, making it more accessible and efficient for international students.
