In Gazipur’s Sreepur, a young man named Md. Jewel (25) was killed in a stabbing incident. The incident occurred around 3:00 AM on Friday night under the Mawna flyover on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway.
The deceased, Md. Jewel, was a resident of Haluaghat Upazila in Mymensingh district. He regularly slept under the flyover with a few others. Details about his profession or specific address are not yet known. Police recovered the body and sent it to Gazipur’s Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College for an autopsy. Two individuals, Md. Rakib (25) and Md. Robin Mia (27), have been detained in connection with the incident. A blood-stained knife was recovered from their possession.
According to locals, a dispute arose between Md. Jewel and the two others while they were sleeping near a tea stall under the flyover. The argument escalated, leading to Jewel being stabbed. He collapsed on the spot. Local residents first took him to a private hospital in Mawna Chowrasta and later to Sreepur Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.
Sreepur Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Abdul Barik said the incident stemmed from a dispute over sleeping arrangements. Upon receiving the information, patrol police detained the two suspects from the scene. Legal action is being taken against them. All three individuals are believed to be homeless and possibly involved in various criminal activities.
