Yubo League Leader Arrested for Extortion and Vandalism at ASP’s Residence

In Bauphal, Patuakhali, police have arrested a Yubo League leader on charges of extortion and vandalism at the residence of an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP). The accused was presented before the court on Friday morning (August 22).

The arrested individual, Kabil Mridha (38), is the joint president of Nawmala Union Yubo League and the son of the late Rustam Ali Mridha from Botkajal village.

According to police, on Thursday evening (August 21), Kabil Mridha, in an inebriated state, entered the residence of ASP Md. Shafiqul Islam with a knife in hand. He demanded two lakh taka from ASP’s father, Abdul Motaleb. When the demand was refused, Kabil began vandalizing furniture in the house. Local residents intervened, stopping his rampage and detaining him before informing the police. Bauphal Thana police arrested him around 9 PM.
Bauphal Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) Aktaruzzaman Sarker confirmed that Kabil Mridha was detained in connection with the extortion and vandalism. A case has been filed regarding the incident.
