Natore Superintendent of Police Mohammad Amzad Hossain Addresses Press Conference in Front of Janseba Hospital
On Tuesday evening, Natore’s Superintendent of Police Mohammad Amzad Hossain revealed during a press conference in front of Janseba Hospital that Dr. Abu Hasan Md. Amirul Islam (65), the hospital’s owner and doctor, was brutally murdered by a sacked employee who slit his throat. The motive behind the killing was the accused’s suspicion of an illicit relationship between the doctor and his lover.
The press conference was held at 6:00 PM after the police visited the crime scene at Janseba Hospital in Madrasha Mor, Natore. The accused, Abu Asad, was brought to the scene but was not allowed to speak to the media.
The police superintendent stated that the mystery of the murder was solved within 30 hours of the incident. Following the crime, six hospital employees, including the sacked worker, were detained for questioning. During interrogation, Abu Asad confessed that he had been working as the doctor’s personal assistant since 2024. He developed a romantic relationship with a nurse at the hospital and wanted to marry her, but Dr. Amirul Islam opposed the marriage. In August, Abu Asad was sacked from his job. He believed the doctor had an illicit relationship with the nurse, which fueled his anger and led him to plan the murder.
On the night of September 1, Abu Asad entered the hospital wearing a burqa and carrying a knife. When the doctor stepped out of his room to attend to a patient, Asad hid under the bed. Around 4:00 AM, when the doctor was asleep, Asad slit his throat and mutilated his body by cutting off his private parts. At around 6:00 AM, Asad fled the hospital in the burqa. The police recovered the knife used in the murder but could not retrieve the burqa, which was discarded in Chalanbil.
Currently, Abu Asad and the nurse, along with four other hospital employees, are in police custody. The superintendent added that the doctor’s wife, Tasmin Sultana (54), filed a murder case on Monday night, naming Abu Asad as the accused. He will be presented in court on Wednesday, while the other detainees will remain under police surveillance.
