Zera Meghnaghat Power Begins Commercial Operations

The Zera Meghnaghat Power Plant (JMPL), located in Narayanganj, has officially commenced commercial operations. The announcement was made on Sunday (August 3) by the Dhaka Power Distribution Company Limited (DPDC) in a statement.

According to the statement, the 745-megawatt power plant is one of the largest and most efficient in the country. The project is capable of meeting up to 5 percent of Bangladesh’s peak electricity demand. Following the start of commercial operations, the electricity generated will be sold under a long-term power purchase agreement with the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) for 22 years.

DPDC also stated that with the successful launch of commercial operations, JMPL will focus on fostering meaningful partnerships to achieve sustainable outcomes in Bangladesh’s energy transition journey.
