BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has alleged that the attack on Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur was a planned and targeted attempt to kill him.
On Sunday (August 31, 2025), Rizvi made these remarks to journalists after visiting Nur, who is admitted to the ICU at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Rizvi stated, “A horrific attack was carried out on Nur. It was pre-planned and targeted with the intent to kill him. If the injuries on his body had been slightly off, death would have been inevitable. Nur has been attacked 22 times before. From Bogura to wherever he has gone, he has been a victim of the fascist government’s wrath. We condemn this incident and demand a fair investigation.”
He further added, “On Friday, Nur did not engage in any violence. Yet, an attack was launched inside the office. The forces defeated on August 5 are trying to sink their venomous fangs in various ways. I don’t know if GM Quader is involved in this incident. However, it is astonishing that they are talking about politics today.”
Criticizing Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader, the senior BNP leader said, “The person who went to India before the election and said nothing could be done without their permission—how does he engage in politics in Bangladesh? They are peeking out from the depths of the water.”
When asked about BNP’s stance on Gono Odhikar Parishad’s demand to ban the Jatiya Party, Rizvi replied, “The party will decide on this matter.”
Present during the visit were BNP’s Health Affairs Secretary Dr. Rafiqul Islam, Social Welfare Secretary Kamruzzaman Ratan, Gono Odhikar Parishad General Secretary Rashed Khan, and others
