Renowned actress Api Karim, celebrated for her work in drama, films, dance, and hosting, has left an indelible mark with her talent across various platforms. Even after her golden era, her charm continues to captivate audiences. It’s hard to find someone who doesn’t admire this charismatic performer. However, during her time at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Api Karim says she was largely ignored, particularly by her own department.
Having studied architecture and later taught at BUET, Api recently shared personal anecdotes from her life in an interview, shedding light on her college days. She revealed that no one at BUET, especially in her department, paid her any attention.
Api Karim shared, “No one at BUET gave me any attention. The BUET bus would stop right across from my house, but it was always packed with students. Not once did anyone say, ‘Oh, it’s Api Karim!’ I had to stand most days.”
She further elaborated, “If I went to other departments or the bank, some people would show a bit of courtesy. But in my own department at BUET—be it janitors, teachers, friends, seniors, or juniors—no one ever paid me any heed.”
Despite this, Api said she enjoyed the lack of attention, as it kept her grounded and prevented her from feeling overly noticed.
During a rapid-fire segment of the interview, Api answered various questions. She mentioned that people often perceive her as short-tempered, but she describes herself as absent-minded. She loves plain pulao and enjoys all kinds of food. While she has worked extensively with Mahfuz in dramas, she noted that audiences particularly love her on-screen chemistry with Partha Barua.
