Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has directed the Public Service Commission (PSC) to conduct BCS (Bangladesh Civil Service) examinations annually at a fixed time, maintaining transparency in accordance with a predetermined calendar.
On Sunday (September 7), during a meeting with PSC officials at the state guest house Yamuna in the afternoon, the Chief Adviser issued this directive. Professor Yunus stated, “Examinations and recruitment must be completed at a fixed time every year as per the calendar. The BCS examination is the ‘entry point.’ Those who pass this exam will run the government. Therefore, any irregularity at the entry point will impact the entire system.” He further emphasized, “The problems and crises that exist must be resolved responsibly. Everyone must work together to bring about necessary reforms. This is essential for those who will run the government in the future.” During the meeting, PSC Chairman Professor Dr. Mobashsher Monem discussed establishing financial and administrative autonomy for the commission. He also informed that the commission has already provided a five-year roadmap, and examinations and recruitment will be completed between November and October of the following year. PSC members noted that over the past 15 years, political interference has led to various irregularities in BCS exams, including favoritism and question paper leaks. Necessary reforms have been implemented to ensure that such irregularities do not recur and to make the PSC a trusted institution. The standard of question papers is being improved to enable job aspirants to compete in global competitions as well. The meeting was attended by PSC Chairman Professor Dr. Mobashsher Monem, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration Dr. Mokhlesur Rahman, Chief Secretary to the Chief Adviser Sirajuddin Mia, and PSC members Md. Sujayet Ulla, Md. Jahirul Islam Bhuiyan, Professor Dr. M. Sohel Rahman, Professor Dr. Chowdhury Sayma Ferdous, Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr. Md. Anwarul Islam, Professor Dr. Shahnaz Sarker, and Secretary of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission Secretariat Dr. Md. Sanowar Jahan Bhuiyan.
