Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has directed the Public Service Commission (PSC) to conduct the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examinations annually on a fixed schedule with full transparency. The directive was given during a meeting with PSC officials on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at the state guesthouse Jamuna in Dhaka.
Professor Yunus stated, “BCS examinations must be held on a fixed calendar every year to complete the recruitment process on time. The BCS is the ‘entry point’ to governance, and those who pass these exams will run the government. Any irregularity at this entry point will affect the entire system.” He added, “We must address existing problems and crises responsibly. Everyone must work together for necessary reforms to ensure a robust system for those who will lead the government in the future.”
The statement was shared on the Chief Adviser’s Facebook page.
During the meeting, PSC Chairman Professor Mobasher Monem discussed establishing financial and administrative autonomy for the commission. He informed that the PSC has already provided a five-year roadmap, ensuring exams and recruitment are completed between November and October each year.
PSC members highlighted that over the past 15 years, political interference led to irregularities, favoritism, and question paper leaks in BCS exams. They assured that necessary reforms have been implemented to prevent such issues and restore public trust in the PSC. The quality of question papers is being enhanced to prepare candidates not only for BCS but also for global competitive exams.
The meeting was attended by PSC Chairman Professor Mobasher Monem, Senior Secretary of the Public Administration Ministry Mohammad Mokhles Ur Rahman, Chief Secretary to the Chief Adviser Sirajuddin Miah, and PSC members Mohammad Sujayet Ulla, Mohammad Jahirul Islam Bhuiyan, Professor M Sohel Rahman, Professor Chowdhury Sayma Ferdous, Brigadier General (Retd.) Mohammad Anwarul Islam, Professor Shahnaz Sarkar, and PSC Secretariat Secretary Mohammad Sanowar Jahan Bhuiyan.
