Gono Odhikar Parishad Activists Vandalize Jatiya Party Office in Khulna

Khulna, September 3, 2025: Leaders and activists of Gono Odhikar Parishad vandalized the district and city office of the Jatiya Party in Khulna on Wednesday evening. The attack occurred around 5:30 PM when protesters broke the office signboard and main gate, blocked the road, and burned an effigy of Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader at Dakbangla intersection.

According to eyewitnesses, Gono Odhikar Parishad activists began a protest procession from Ferryghat intersection around 4:30 PM, disrupting traffic. The procession reached the Jatiya Party office, where the vandalism took place and continued until 7:00 PM. Gono Odhikar Parishad leaders stated that the demonstration was organized to demand justice for a recent attack on their party president, Nurul Haque Nur, and other activists, as well as to call for the resignation of the home affairs adviser and a ban on the political activities of the Jatiya Party and the 14-Party Alliance. GM Azizul Islam, president of Gono Odhikar Parishad’s Khulna district unit, told The Daily Star, “While returning with the procession, some of our activists were moving their vehicles near the Mahendra stand beside the Jatiya Party office. At that time, some individuals—possibly Jatiya Party or Awami League activists—made derogatory remarks about our party and leader. This provoked our activists, who then removed the Jatiya Party office signboard.” Abdullah Al Mamun, general secretary of Khulna city Jatiya Party, claimed the attackers looted furniture, papers, doors, and even the iron scraps of the signboard, causing damages worth approximately Tk 5 lakh. He added, “No decision has been made yet regarding legal action.”
Khulna Sadar Police Station OC Haoladar Sanwar Hossain Masum reported that the situation was under control and no formal complaint had been filed.
