Salahuddin Ahmed, a member of the BNP’s Standing Committee, emphasized the need to maintain national unity against fascism. He made these remarks to journalists on Monday night at the BNP Chairperson’s political office in Gulshan, Dhaka. Earlier that evening, a delegation led by Sarjis Alam, Chief Organizer (Northern Region) of the National Conference for People’s Rights (NCPR), visited the office to extend greetings on the occasion of BNP’s 47th founding anniversary. During the visit, NCPR leaders presented bouquets to BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed, congratulating them on the anniversary. A 20-minute discussion followed between the groups.
Salahuddin Ahmed said, “The democratic journey we are on today, following the July mass uprising, carries immense expectations from the martyrs. One of these is the practice and nurturing of a democratic culture, which is now becoming visible. The young friends from NCPR have proven today that this political culture must prevail among us—where we engage in debates and hold differing opinions, but maintain mutual respect through cordial discussions. We must uphold the national unity against fascism and transform it into a force to transition toward democracy in the days ahead.”
The NCPR delegation also included Senior Joint Convener Samantha Sharmin, Ariful Islam Adib, Central Organizer Mostak Ahmed Shishir, Tauhid Hossain, and Mainul Islam from the Dhaka North Gulshan Zone, among others.
