Dhaka, May 5, 2025 – A fire that broke out in Siraj Tower, a multi-storey building on Bailey Road in the capital, has been brought under control. The blaze, which started around 6:47 PM on Monday, was contained by 7:47 PM through the efforts of nine Fire Service units.
According to the Fire Service, 18 people were rescued alive from the building, including nine women, seven men, and two children. The fire is believed to have originated from a generator in the building’s basement, though a detailed investigation will be conducted to confirm the cause and assess the extent of damage.
The Fire Service received the report of the fire at 6:47 PM, with the first unit arriving at the scene by 6:58 PM. Eight additional units joined subsequently to combat the blaze. Eyewitnesses reported that the fire on the lower floors caused panic among occupants, prompting many to seek refuge on the building’s rooftop.
Curious onlookers gathered at the scene, creating a crowd that was managed by law enforcement and army personnel to maintain order. The Fire Service stated that a thorough investigation will determine the cause of the fire and the full scope of losses.
This incident follows a tragic fire last year at Green Cozy Cottage, another multi-storey building on Bailey Road, which claimed 46 lives.
