Dhaka, May 28, 2025: Salahuddin Ahmed, a member of the BNP’s Standing Committee, claimed that the government staged a drama regarding its resignation, despite the BNP only demanding a roadmap for elections. He stated, “We did not demand resignation; we demanded elections by December.
I urge everyone to unite for a neutral government, democracy, and elections.” He made these remarks during a grand rally titled ‘Establishing the Political Rights of Youth’ held on Wednesday afternoon in front of the BNP’s central office in Naya Paltan. The event was organized by the party’s three associate organizations—Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, Swechchhasebak Dal, and Chhatra Dal—representing Dhaka, Mymensingh, Sylhet, and Faridpur divisions.
Salahuddin Ahmed said, “We aim to build a state where the youth can participate. We are working towards creating a new Bangladesh following the mass uprising of August 5.” He alleged that efforts are underway to create divisions in the unity and to make people forget the looting by the Awami League. He claimed that the Awami League laundered 30 lakh crore taka and created 4 lakh crore taka in defaulted loans in the banking sector, an amount sufficient to build 36 Padma Bridges. Labeling the Awami League as the killer of democracy, he said, “Our only enemy is the Awami League and Sheikh Hasina.”
He further stated that those who fought for democracy under Tarique Rahman’s leadership are being falsely labeled as agents of foreign countries. The rally was addressed by other BNP Standing Committee members, including Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury. The event was chaired by Jubo Dal President Monayem Munna and moderated by Swechchhasebak Dal General Secretary Rajib Ahsan and Chhatra Dal General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir.
