Sirajganj, May 23, 2025 : A video showing a physical altercation between two leaders of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) from Ullapara Upazila, Sirajganj, has gone viral on social media, triggering widespread criticism and debate.
The incident occurred on Thursday night (May 22) during a meeting at a restaurant in Dhaka’s Naya Paltan, where the Ullapara Upazila BNP’s conference preparatory committee was discussing plans for the party’s “Youth Rally” in Bogura. The video captures a heated exchange between former Member of Parliament and BNP leader M Akbar Ali and KM Sharfuddin Manju, which escalated into a physical confrontation.
Other leaders present, including conference preparatory committee coordinator Nur Kayem Sobbuj, Advocate Simki Imam Khan, and retired DIG Khan Saeed Hasan, attempted to intervene and defuse the situation.
According to sources, the altercation stemmed from a disagreement over the expenses for the Bogura rally. During the discussion, KM Sharfuddin Manju reportedly remarked to Akbar Ali, “You are the owner of thousands of crores of taka; you should bear all the costs.” This led to a verbal spat that quickly turned physical.
Despite efforts by other leaders to calm the situation, the clash was recorded on a mobile phone and subsequently spread across social media platforms, drawing negative reactions from the public and raising questions about party discipline.
When contacted, Advocate Simki Imam Khan, a member of the preparatory committee, confirmed that the incident occurred during discussions about participation in the Bogura rally. She added that the matter has been reported to district BNP leaders for further action.
The viral video has sparked significant backlash, with many questioning the internal unity and discipline within the BNP.
