Dhaka, 05 June, 2025 : In a raid conducted by joint forces in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur Geneva Camp, four sacks of cash were recovered, and one suspect, identified as Isak Ahmed, was arrested. The operation took place on the night of Wednesday, June 4.
The detained individual, Isak Ahmed, stated that a person named ‘Bunia Sohel’ left the four sacks of cash at his pharmacy, claiming he had no further knowledge about the money. Notably, ‘Bunia Sohel’ was recently arrested by law enforcement but later released. Geneva Camp has been a hotspot for clashes and gunfire between groups led by two prominent drug dealers, Bunia Sohel and Chua Selim, over control of the drug trade in the area.
Since August 5 last year, Mohammadpur has witnessed a surge in criminal activities following political changes. Extortion, drug trafficking, racketeering, and armed violence have turned the area into a hub of fear in the capital. Multiple criminal groups are engaged in conflicts to gain control over footpaths, markets, and businesses.
Amid the Eid holidays, this operation, resulting in the seizure of a significant amount of cash, marks a notable step by law enforcement. The incident has sparked calls for stricter measures to curb crime in the area.
