An Israeli missile attack on Monday in Iran’s capital, Tehran, severely damaged the residence of a Bangladeshi embassy official. The official, Walid Islam, serving as First Secretary at the Bangladesh Embassy, was not at home during the attack and escaped unharmed. Speaking to BBC Bangla, he said, “My house has been completely destroyed. Almost nothing remains in the surrounding area.”
The strike targeted Tehran’s Jordan area, home to Iran’s state television building and other key installations. Israel had announced the attack in advance, and residents were instructed to evacuate, resulting in relatively low casualties but extensive structural damage.
The Bangladesh government issued directives on Monday afternoon to evacuate embassy staff and expatriate Bangladeshis to safer locations. Approximately 400 Bangladeshis in Tehran are currently safe, according to Acting Foreign Secretary Ruhul Alam Siddique. He stated, “Ensuring the safety of our expatriates and embassy officials is our primary goal. We are closely monitoring them until the situation improves.”
The Foreign Ministry is now planning to relocate Bangladeshi expatriates to safer areas outside Tehran.
