Russia Ready to Mediate in Iran-Israel Conflict

On Tuesday, June 17, 2025, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov announced that Russia is prepared to act as a mediator to resolve the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel, according to a report by Al Jazeera.
Peskov stated that President Vladimir Putin has expressed readiness to facilitate mediation if needed. However, Israel has shown reluctance toward mediation or pursuing peaceful resolutions.
The report further noted that Iran is one of Russia’s key allies, but Moscow does not wish to alienate Israel, with which it has maintained strong ties for years.
Nikolai Surkov, an assistant professor at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, commented that Russia is sincerely striving for a political solution. However, the Kremlin is navigating a complex balancing act in its diplomatic efforts.
