SWAT Deployed for Security at Hamza’s Match

Sports Desk, June 8, 2025 :To ensure heightened security for the upcoming Asian Cup Qualifier match on June 10, the Bangladesh Football Federation (Baffu) is taking stringent measures following the chaos witnessed during the Bangladesh-Bhutan friendly on June 4.

During that match, spectators broke through gates to enter the stadium, and three supporters even jumped from the gallery onto the field. Learning from the mismanagement, Baffu is bolstering security arrangements for the upcoming Bangladesh-Singapore match at the National Stadium.

The Bangladesh Police’s elite Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit will conduct a rehearsal at the National Stadium on Monday and oversee security on match day. Golam Gaus, Chairman of Baffu’s Competition Committee, stated, “Today, we inspected the stadium and various gates with the match commissioner. Tomorrow at 11 a.m., SWAT will conduct a rehearsal. We are also in constant coordination with the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).”
Baffu is taking no chances after facing fines multiple times at Bashundhara Kings Arena. With football returning to the National Stadium after four years, any major mismanagement or security lapse could lead to penalties based on the match commissioner’s report. To avoid this, Baffu is deploying additional personnel. “We will have more manpower for the Singapore match compared to the Bhutan game,” Gaus added.
The excitement for the Bangladesh-Singapore match is at its peak among football fans. For those unable to attend the match in Dhaka, Fortis FC, a Premier League club, is arranging a big-screen broadcast in Chattogram. Similar initiatives are planned in other divisional cities by the federation or individual organizers.
