In a daring incident in the capital’s Shahbag area, a man named Manik Miya was reportedly robbed of 2.5 lakh taka at gunpoint near the area between Shaheed Minar and Doel Chattar. The victim has filed a complaint at the Shahbag Police Station regarding the incident.
The robbery took place around 3:00 PM on Wednesday, July 2. Shahbag Police Station’s Sub-Inspector (SI) Manoj Prabhakar Roy confirmed the incident.
He stated, “The victim, Manik, has lodged a complaint at Shahbag Police Station regarding the robbery. There is no CCTV footage available in the area, so we are conducting a manual investigation. We have already started working on the case.”
He further added, “We suspect that the victim was followed from the Motijheel area. From what we know, he had exchanged dollars for cash and was passing through this route when the incident occurred. A complaint has been filed, but a case has not yet been registered.”
The victim’s brother-in-law, Shah Alam, said, “My brother-in-law is involved in contracting and also deals in dollar exchange. While returning from Motijheel after exchanging dollars around noon, he was intercepted by 3-4 individuals near the area between Shaheed Minar and Doel Chattar. They held him at gunpoint, took 2.5 lakh taka, and threatened to kill him if he didn’t leave the scene quickly. Following the incident, my brother-in-law filed a complaint at Shahbag Police Station.”
