BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed: Those Who Were with Awami League in the Name of 14-Party Alliance Are Now Making Big Claims in Reform Commission

On Saturday (July 5, 2025), at a thana meeting of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in South Keraniganj, Dhaka, BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed stated that those who were aligned with the Awami League under the banner of the 14-party alliance are now making grandiose statements in the reform commission. He further remarked that the groups advocating for proportional representation at Suhrawardy Udyan are a "char-based party" that previously collaborated with the Awami League to legitimize elections.

Salahuddin Ahmed added that there is an attempt to erase the history of democracy. Describing reform as an ongoing process, he emphasized the need for short-term reforms to facilitate prompt elections. He stated that if BNP comes to power with the people’s mandate, it will implement all reforms, including constitutional ones. He urged political forces supporting the mass uprising to remain united to build a prosperous Bangladesh. The BNP leader further warned that any attempt to stay in power without elections under the guise of reforms and justice would turn into a nightmare. He affirmed that BNP would struggle again if necessary to establish the rights of the people. Regarding the NCP, Salahuddin Ahmed said he wishes success for the new student-led party. However, he noted that while they claim they will not participate in elections without fundamental reforms, they have not clarified what specific conditions would lead them to join the electoral process.
