Person Behind Spreading Video of Woman’s Assault in Muradnagar Sent to Jail

Shah Paran, identified as the individual behind spreading a video of a woman being stripped and assaulted in Muradnagar, Comilla, has been sent to jail. On Saturday afternoon, he was sent to prison through a court order. Shah Paran is the younger brother of Fazr Ali, who was arrested on charges of raping the same woman.

On Thursday afternoon, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Shah Paran from the Burichong area of the district. On Friday, RAB-11 held a press conference at their media center in Dhaka, providing details of the incident. Later that evening, RAB handed Shah Paran over to the Muradnagar Police Station.

The case’s investigation officer, Sub-Inspector (SI) Ruhul Amin of Muradnagar Police Station, told Prothom Alo that Shah Paran was arrested in connection with a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act and the Pornography Control Act. After being presented in court, he was ordered to be sent to jail. An application for his remand will be submitted to the court on Sunday. Earlier, on Thursday, after a hearing, Senior Judicial Magistrate Mominul Haque granted three-day remand for four other accused—Muhammad Ali alias Suman, Ramzan Ali, Md. Arif, and Md. Anik—who were arrested on June 28. On Saturday afternoon, they were brought from Comilla Central Jail to Muradnagar Police Station for interrogation. Around 2:30 PM on Saturday, SI Ruhul Amin said, “The court granted three-day remand for the four accused, and they have been taken into police custody from jail for questioning. We hope to obtain crucial information from them.” Meanwhile, Fazr Ali, the prime accused in the brutal assault case, remains under treatment at Comilla Police Hospital. During the incident, locals beat him, breaking his hands and legs. Police arrested him from Dhaka on June 29 and admitted him to the hospital. When asked about presenting him in court, SI Ruhul Amin said, “He will be produced in court as soon as the doctors provide a clearance. He is currently under treatment at the hospital.” In the case filed on June 29 under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act and the Pornography Control Act, four individuals were named, along with 20-25 unidentified persons. Although no new arrests have been made, police claim they have identified the accused, who have fled the area.
SI Ruhul Amin added, “Those we have identified have fled the area. Police operations are ongoing to apprehend them. We are hopeful that all those involved will soon be brought to justice.”
