In Gopalganj, another attack was launched on the convoy of central leaders of the National Citizen Party (NCP) as they were leaving after participating in a rally at the Pouro Park area. The assault took place around 2:45 PM on Wednesday (July 16) in front of Gopalganj Government College near the launch ghat area.
During the incident, NCP’s Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain, Chief Organizer for the Southern Region Hasnat Abdullah, and Chief Organizer for the Northern Region Sarjis Alam were safely evacuated from the scene in Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs) provided by the army.
The government has issued a stern warning regarding the attack on the NCP rally, emphasizing measures to restore order. The deployment of army APCs underscores the heightened tensions in Gopalganj, where earlier incidents of violence, including attacks on police and vandalism, prompted the imposition of Section 144 and the deployment of four platoons of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
