The globally renowned satellite internet service provider, Starlink, may officially announce the commencement of its operations in Bangladesh today (Friday). As part of this development, a SpaceX delegation led by Vice President Lauren Dreyer is currently in Dhaka.
The delegation has organized a press conference at 5:00 PM today at Hotel InterContinental in the capital, where details about Starlink’s services, packages, and future plans are expected to be revealed. Foyez Ahmad Taiyab, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser of the Posts and Telecommunications Ministry, will be present at the event.
Sources indicate that Starlink may announce the official start of its operations in Bangladesh today. The company has already secured two crucial licenses from the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC): a Satellite Operator License and a Radio Communication Operators License, both valid for 10 years.
Once Starlink’s services are launched in Bangladesh, high-speed satellite internet is expected to reach remote, border, and broadband-deprived areas. It has been reported that Starlink has introduced two packages for its customers—one priced at BDT 6,000 per month and another at BDT 4,200 per month. However, customers will need to purchase a setup kit for a one-time cost of BDT 42,000 to avail of the services.
According to the itinerary, the SpaceX delegation will meet with Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus today and visit the Grameen Caledonian College of Nursing (GCCN) in Uttara’s Diabari in the afternoon. Later, at 5:00 PM, they will participate in a press conference at Hotel InterContinental.
At the end of the day, the delegation will attend the “July Uprising Rebirth” event at Hatirjheel in Dhaka and enjoy a drone show organized there. The delegation is scheduled to depart Bangladesh on July 19 after concluding their visit.
