Jasor: Saiful Islam, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Maheshpur Police Station in Jhenaidah, checked into the Jasore Water Development Board (WDB) rest house with a woman introduced as his wife. Upon receiving this information, Golam Hasan Sunny, Joint General Secretary of Yasore District Chhatra Dal, along with his associates, raided the rest house and caused a commotion. The incident, which occurred on the evening of June 30, went viral on social media, sparking widespread discussion in the area.
According to CCTV footage and rest house authorities, at 6:10 PM on June 30, OC Saiful Islam entered the Kapotaksha room of the WDB’s old rest house with a woman. About two hours later, Golam Hasan Sunny arrived with five or six associates. They began banging on the door, prompting OC Saiful to come out. When Chhatra Dal activists attempted to enter the room, he tried to stop them. Following a scuffle and physical altercation, they forcibly entered the room.
During the confrontation, Sunny and his associates vandalized the room and recorded videos. They also assaulted an Ansar member and a WDB employee. Upon receiving the news, police arrived at the scene, and Sunny escorted OC Saiful and the woman out through the back door.
Rest house caretaker Mizanur Rahman stated that OC Saiful arrived with a woman introduced as his wife. After about an hour, some local individuals entered the rest house and started banging on the door. When Saiful attempted to leave after opening the door, the group forced him and the woman back inside.
Tarun Hossain, the in-charge of the rest house and Sub-Assistant Engineer, said that the room was allocated to OC Saiful on the instructions of the Yasore WDB Executive Engineer. The woman accompanying him was introduced as his wife. However, an undesirable incident occurred during their stay. Upon receiving the news, WDB and police personnel visited the site.
Polash Kumar Banerjee, Executive Engineer of Yasore WDB, confirmed that the room was allocated to the OC based on a letter from Jhenaidah WDB. Subsequently, outsiders caused the incident, which is now under investigation by law enforcement.
OC Saiful Islam claimed he had come to Yasore for work with a female friend. While staying at the rest house, a few student leaders, whom he knew previously, visited him. He said they had a normal conversation, and no unpleasant incident occurred.
Conversely, Golam Hasan Sunny claimed he went to the rest house after receiving information from locals about a man staying with a woman. However, he found no woman there. When told that CCTV footage captured their presence, Sunny denied the claim, stating that since no woman was found, he had a normal conversation with the OC and left.
Yasore District BNP General Secretary Delwar Hossain Khokon stated that if such allegations against a Chhatra Dal leader are received, organizational action will be taken. The party maintains a strict stance on such matters.
Kamruzzaman Bappy, General Secretary of Yasore District Chhatra Dal, clarified that Sunny is no longer in Chhatra Dal and is now a member of the District Volunteer Team’s convening committee. He was unaware of such allegations. However, Rajedur Rahman Sagar, Member Secretary of the District Volunteer Team, said Sunny is involved in both organizations. He added that the allegations would be investigated, and action would be taken, emphasizing that the party would not take responsibility for individual actions.
OC Abul Hasanat of Jasore Kotwali Model Police Station said police visited the rest house after receiving reports of the incident but found no one there.
