Chandpur: Man Rescued from Assault by Wife and Children Over Auto-Rickshaw Sale Dispute

In Chandpur’s Faridganj, police and locals rescued a 60-year-old man named Monowar Hossain from alleged assault by his wife and three children on Saturday night around 12:30 AM. The incident occurred in Purba Barali village (Paler Bari) of the Faridganj municipality.

According to neighbor Imam Hossain Nantu, the dispute arose over the sale of an auto-rickshaw. Monowar’s wife, Taslima Begum, son Jewel, and daughters Priya and Riya allegedly tied his hands and feet and beat him. At one point, the daughters reportedly attempted to suffocate him with a pillow. Hearing Monowar’s screams, locals informed the police, who, along with residents, rescued him.

Monowar told the police that he had purchased the auto-rickshaw with a loan of 70,000 taka from an NGO. He alleged that his wife and children sold it for 53,000 taka, leading to a confrontation that escalated into the assault and attempted murder.
Faridganj Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Shah Alam stated that Monowar has five children, two of whom live abroad. Initial investigations suggest the incident stemmed from a family dispute over the auto-rickshaw sale, compounded by existing conflicts over land. The wife and three children have been detained, and a case will be filed on Sunday.
