The government has promoted seven Deputy Inspector General (DIG)-ranked police officers to the rank of Additional Inspector General of Police (IGP).
On Monday (August 11), the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notification confirming the promotions.
**The officers promoted to Additional IGP are:**
- Md. Ali Hossain Fakir, DIG of APBn
- G.M. Azizur Rahman, DIG of SB
- Md. Sarwar, Additional Police Commissioner (DIG) of DMP
- Md. Mustafa Kamal, DIG of Armed Police Battalion
- Kazi Md. Fazlul Karim, DIG of Police Headquarters
- Md. Rezaul Karim, DIG of Highway Police
- Md. Ahsan Habib Palash, DIG of Chattogram Range
According to the notification, the promotions were granted against seven newly created supernumerary posts, following the completion of all formalities outlined in a letter dated October 9, 2024, from the Expenditure Management-5 Branch of the Finance Division and the Ministry of Public Administration (Reference No. 07.155.015.44.03.034.2010 (Part-2)-540).
The notification further stated that these posts will automatically be abolished if they become vacant due to the promotion, retirement, removal, or any other reason concerning the officers holding these positions. The tenure of the seven supernumerary posts will be one year from the date of their creation. The promoted officers will continue to perform their duties in their respective positions. This order, issued in the public interest, will take effect immediately.
