In a tragic incident on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway in Sreenagar, Munshiganj, a private car overturned, resulting in the deaths of three people, including a husband and wife. The accident occurred around 6:15 AM on Thursday in the Solaghar passenger shelter area. One passenger was injured in the crash.
The deceased have been identified as Md. Tanjil (25) from Dohar’s Sainpukur area, Md. Arman Hossain (25), and his wife Raisa (20) from Uttara Badda in Dhaka. The injured passenger, Robin Hossain (22), is a resident of Bhanga, Faridpur. The group had hired the private car to travel from Dhaka to Mawa, and the accident occurred on their return journey.
According to reports, the accident took place when one of the passengers attempted to drive off with the car while the driver, Montu Miya, was using a restroom at a fuel station. Montu Miya stated, “After driving all night, we started heading back to Dhaka after Fajr prayers. I informed the passengers that I needed to use the restroom and parked the car at a fuel station. The passengers asked me to keep the AC running, so I left the keys in the car. When I returned, the car was gone. I immediately informed the car owner.”
The car owner, Amir Hossain Himel, said, “After being informed by the driver, I tried calling Tanjil multiple times, but he didn’t answer. Later, someone called from Tanjil’s phone to inform me that the car had been involved in an accident.”
Local sources and the Fire Service reported that the car was being driven recklessly at high speed. Around 6:15 AM, it crashed into a road divider near the Solaghar passenger shelter, causing the vehicle to overturn. Tanjil and Arman died on the spot. The Fire Service rescued the four passengers and took them to Sreenagar Health Complex, where doctors declared three of them, including Raisa, dead. The injured passenger, Robin, received primary treatment.
Hasara Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abu Naim Siddique stated that reckless driving with malicious intent was the cause of the accident. The vehicle has been seized by the police, and the bodies of the deceased have been sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsies. Further action will be taken based on the autopsy reports.
