Bangladesh Government to Assist BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman’s Return: Foreign Affairs Adviser

Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain stated that the government will provide assistance if BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman wishes to return to Bangladesh. He made these remarks on Thursday evening (September 4, 2025) while responding to journalists’ questions on contemporary issues at the Foreign Ministry.

Touhid Hossain said, “Tarique Rahman’s desire to return to the country is entirely his own decision. If he faces any issues with his travel documents, we will resolve them.”

When asked whether Tarique Rahman has applied for a passport, the Foreign Affairs Adviser noted, “I am not aware if he has applied for a passport. Whenever he decides to return, we will provide the necessary passport or travel document.” On whether the government would take any initiative on its own, he responded, “I don’t think that’s necessary. When he wishes to return, we will definitely provide whatever assistance is required.”
Regarding communication with India about repatriating former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Touhid Hossain said, “We have not sent any further letters after the last one. We sent a letter once, and if any more are sent, you will be informed.”
