In allegations of abuse of power to secure government plots in the Purbachal New Town Project under the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK), five witnesses have testified in three separate cases against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 23 others.
On Thursday (September 4), in the court of Special Judge Mohammad Robiul Alam at Dhaka’s Special Judge Court-4, testimonies were given by Delwar Hossain, an office assistant at the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, Mohammad Lutfor Rahman, chief assistant of the tax circle, Md. Rezaul Haque, a computer operator in the tax circle, and Md. Abu Taher, a notice server in the tax circle. As the accused are absconding, the witnesses were not cross-examined.
In January, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed six separate cases regarding corruption in plot allotments. The accused include former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her son Sajib Wazed Joy, daughter Saima Wazed (Putul), sister Sheikh Rehana, Rehana’s daughter and British MP Tulip Rizwana Siddique, son Radwan Mujib Siddique, and daughter Azmina Siddique, among others. The allegations state that while holding the highest government office, Sheikh Hasina and her family abused their power to secure 10-katha plots in Sector 27 of the Purbachal Housing Project despite being ineligible.
