A single-member judicial inquiry committee, led by Justice Md. Ali Reza, has been formed to investigate the attack on Nurul Haque Nur, the president of Gono Odhikar Parishad. This was confirmed by Shafiqul Alam, the press secretary to the chief adviser, on Tuesday, September 2, 2025. He further stated that a gazette notification regarding the committee’s formation will be issued by Wednesday.
The announcement was made during a meeting between Nur’s wife, Maria Akhtar, and the chief adviser at the state guest house Jamuna. Present at the meeting were Law Adviser Asif Nazrul, Environment Adviser Rizwana Hasan, Housing and Public Works Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan, Gono Odhikar Parishad’s general secretary Rashed Khan, and senior joint general secretary Hasan Al Mamun.
The incident occurred on Friday evening when a clash broke out between activists of the Jatiya Party and Gono Odhikar Parishad near the Jatiya Party’s office in Kakrail, Dhaka. The violence erupted as a procession by Gono Odhikar Parishad passed by, leading to a confrontation. Subsequently, Nurul Haque Nur was seriously injured during a lathi charge by law enforcement and is currently undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital
