Technology Desk, May 27, 2025: Demis Hassabis, CEO of Google DeepMind, recently stated in an interview that artificial intelligence (AI) will significantly reshape the job market within the next 5 to 10 years. While some jobs will disappear, new types of professions will emerge. He advised young people to start learning AI now to stay ahead in the future job landscape.
Hassabis noted that technology has always transformed human life. The internet revolutionized the lifestyle of Millennials, while smartphones shaped Generation Z. Similarly, AI will define the future of Generation Alpha. “Those who learn and adapt to AI will be the winners of the future,” he emphasized.
Since the launch of ChatGPT by OpenAI in 2022, global discussions about AI’s impact have intensified. Many, from employees to entrepreneurs, are concerned about whether AI will take away their jobs. Hassabis clarified that while some jobs will indeed vanish, new roles will emerge, much like social media managers or cloud engineers, which didn’t exist in the past.
He urged young people to focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education while developing soft skills like curiosity, adaptability, creativity, and analytical thinking. Although machines will automate many tasks, human intelligence and creativity will remain dominant in roles requiring nuanced thinking.
Hassabis encouraged students to engage with open-source platforms, take free online courses, and practice solving real-world problems. He stressed that AI is not just the future but a present reality. “Those who master AI knowledge will hold the power of the future,” he said.
He concluded with a call to action for students to go beyond academic syllabi, explore new technologies, and embrace a mindset of adaptability to thrive in an AI-driven world.
