Heavy Rainfall in Dhaka Due to Deep Depression: 195 mm Recorded in 24 Hours, More Storms Expected

Dhaka, May 30, 2025 – A deep depression has triggered extremely heavy rainfall in Dhaka and its surrounding areas, with 195 mm of rain recorded in the last 24 hours. The Bangladesh Meteorological Department’s Storm Warning Center has forecasted continued cloudy skies, rain, and thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds for Friday, May 30.
According to the weather forecast issued at 7:00 AM for the next six hours, Dhaka and adjacent areas are likely to experience cloudy to overcast skies with chances of rain or thundershowers. Winds blowing from the south or southeast at 12–18 km/h may temporarily intensify into gusts reaching up to 30 km/h. The daytime temperature is expected to remain nearly unchanged from yesterday.
At 6:00 AM today, Dhaka recorded a temperature of 26.1°C with 98% humidity. Yesterday’s maximum temperature was 26.2°C, while the minimum temperature today was 25.5°C. The sunset in Dhaka is scheduled for 6:41 PM today, and sunrise tomorrow will occur at 5:11 AM.
According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, rainfall is classified as follows: 1–10 mm as light, 11–22 mm as moderate, 23–43 mm as moderately heavy, 44–88 mm as heavy, and above 88 mm as extremely heavy. The 195 mm recorded in Dhaka qualifies as extremely heavy rainfall.
