Sports, May 26, 2025: Lahore Qalandars etched their name in Pakistan Super League (PSL) history by securing their third title in a breathtaking final at Gaddafi Stadium. Chasing 202 runs set by Quetta Gladiators, Lahore clinched victory on the final ball, driven by the explosive batting of Kusal Perera and Sikandar Raza, and a crucial wicket from Bangladesh’s young spinner Rishad Hossain. This triumph places Lahore alongside Islamabad United as three-time PSL champions.
The chase began with a 39-run opening partnership between Mohammad Naim and Fakhar Zaman. Fakhar fell for 11, but Naim’s 47 off 27 balls and Abdullah Shafique’s 41 kept the momentum alive. The game’s turning point came with Sri Lankan star Kusal Perera’s 28-ball fifty, which, alongside a match-winning fifth-wicket stand with Sikandar Raza, guided Lahore to the brink of victory. In the final over, needing 13 runs, Raza’s boundary and six sealed the title with one ball to spare.
Bangladesh’s leg-spinner Rishad Hossain made a significant impact, dismissing Quetta’s Fernando to disrupt their middle order and pave the way for Lahore’s triumph. While veterans Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz missed out on the final XI, their presence added valuable experience to the squad. This victory marks all three Bangladeshi players as PSL champions, a proud moment for Bangladesh cricket.
Batting first, Quetta Gladiators faced early challenges but were bolstered by Hasan Nawaz’s 76 and Fahim Ashraf’s explosive 28 off 8 balls, reaching 201. However, Lahore’s bowling unit, led by Shaheen Afridi, Rishad Hossain, and Sikandar Raza, struck at regular intervals to keep Quetta under pressure.
During the innings break, a special ceremony dedicated to the Pakistan Navy was held, attended by the Navy Chief, senior government officials, and foreign diplomats.
Despite a poor start to the tournament, Lahore Qalandars regrouped mid-season and delivered a regal finish to claim the title. The brilliance of Kusal Perera and Sikandar Raza, combined with Rishad’s pivotal bowling and the experience of Shakib and Miraz, crafted an unforgettable victory, weaving Bangladesh’s red-and-green flag into this tale of triumph.
