Faridpur Court Sentences Man to Death for Raping Disabled Minor, Orders Property Sale to Pay Fine

A court in Faridpur has sentenced a man to death for raping a 13-year-old physically and mentally disabled girl. The verdict was delivered on Monday, July 21, 2025, at around 12:30 PM by Shamima Parveen, the judge of the Faridpur Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal and District Judge.

In addition to the death penalty, the court imposed a fine of Tk 500,000 on the convict and directed the District Collector to sell the convict’s property to pay the fine to the victim.

The convicted individual, Nuruddin Molla (57), is a resident of Kosagopalpur village in Kanaipur Union, Faridpur Sadar. He was present in court during the verdict and was subsequently taken to Faridpur District Jail under police custody. According to court sources, on September 23, 2023, in the afternoon, the victim’s parents and brother were visiting a relative at Faridpur Medical College Hospital. Taking advantage of the empty house in the evening, Nuruddin Molla entered and raped the girl. When neighbors responded to her screams, he fled the scene. The following day, September 24, 2023, the victim’s father filed a case against Nuruddin under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act at Faridpur Kotwali Police Station. The case was investigated by Sub-Inspector Shamim Ahmed, who submitted a charge sheet against Nuruddin on July 31, 2024. Confirming the verdict, Public Prosecutor Golam Rabbani told Prothom Alo that this is a historic judgment that will set a precedent across the country. He stated, “Rape has become a social menace. This verdict will play a significant role in reducing rape-related crimes. Additionally, the court’s directive to sell the convict’s property to pay the fine to the victim is an unprecedented addition to such judgments.”
