Mohammad Nahid Islam, the convener of the National Citizens Party (NCP), has stated that no elections will be held without the July Charter, justice, and reforms. He said, “We will wait until August 5 for the July Charter. We hope that the government and all stakeholders will announce the charter by then.”
He made these remarks on Monday (July 7) morning during the ‘July March’ program in Rajshahi. The NCP has been demanding the recognition of July martyrs and fighters, the formulation of the July Charter to reflect the aspirations of the people from the July uprising, and its declaration as part of the constitution. The party insists that the charter be announced within this month, expressing hope that the government will declare it within this timeframe based on a consensus among all political parties.
To commemorate the July Charter, justice, reforms, and the memory of July, the NCP launched a nationwide program called ‘July March to Build the Nation’ on July 1. Starting from Panchagarh, the northernmost district, the march has covered 14 districts in the past six days. On Monday, NCP leaders will proceed to Sirajganj and Pabna via Natore.
