A Dhaka court has granted a 3-day remand for Mohammad Hosen Faruk, accused of defrauding theater producer Mir Fakhruddin, alias Chhoton, of Tk 50 lakh by promising to secure government projects worth Tk 100 crore using the names of Adviser and National Citizens Party (NCP) organizers Hasnat Abdullah and Sarjis Alam.

On Thursday (September 4), Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Ziadur Rahman of Dhaka issued the order.

The investigating officer of the case, Sub-Inspector Md. Harunur Rashid from Gulshan Police Station, produced Faruk in court and sought a 7-day remand. The defense lawyer requested the cancellation of the remand and applied for bail. After the hearing, the court granted a 3-day remand. Earlier, on September 1, the victim, Mir Fakhruddin, filed a case at Gulshan Police Station. In the complaint, the plaintiff stated that he was introduced to Faruk through a friend for business purposes. In early November last year, Faruk claimed to have close ties with Hasnat Abdullah, the chief organizer of NCP’s southern region, and Sarjis Alam, the chief organizer of the northern region. Showing pictures with Adviser Asif Nazrul, Asif Mahmud, and NCP’s Hasnat and Sarjis, Faruk promised to secure government programs and documentary projects worth Tk 100 crore. He demanded Tk 2 crore for Hasnat and Sarjis, with an advance payment of Tk 50 lakh. On November 19 last year, the plaintiff paid Faruk Tk 50 lakh. However, despite repeated attempts to follow up, Faruk did not answer calls. On August 13 this year, when the plaintiff demanded the money back, Faruk allegedly threatened to kill him. The victim informed Hasnat about the issue, and on August 25, Hasnat filed a General Diary (GD) at Shahbag Police Station regarding the matter.
